The Story Garden acknowledges that it is located on the unceded land of the traditional Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe) and Dakhota people who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. We also acknowledge the intentional history of disinvestment on the Northside reserved for Jewish and Black communities. It is our desire to never stop learning from and be in healing relationship with Indigenous and Black communities, growing in our understanding of the harms of colonialism and how to live in harmony with the land and one another.

As neighbors, we work towards cultivating intentional growing space where our connection to the land and to each other is priority, peace is cultivated, and hope is flourishing.

The Story Garden is located in North Minneapolis in the Folwell neighborhood. We are a cottage garden on a community scale that serves the neighborhood she is found in. We are organized by volunteers with no plot allotment allowing everyone to grow, tend, and harvest in the garden. The Story Garden is also home to Humboldt Honey Mpls.

Honey & Hive Oct 3, 2026

Honey & Hive is a community centered event with the goal to bring people together. It started with a dream of selling honey in the garden right next to the bees. Lighting an early morning bonfire and drinking coffee and tea. Experiencing Northsiders sell and trade their products in a Local Garden Farmer’s Market. Offering up classes and workshops and art projects for neighbors to learn and expand their knowledge and skills. It is a day of rich honey and hive activity. We hope you will join us for this beautiful day of connecting with the land and with each other.

Hive & Honey will start with a Farmers Market located at 3500 Humboldt from 8 am - 11 am. Then from 12 pm - 4 pm we will host a variety of classes and workshops focused on Land Care, Environmental Protections, Medicine Making, and Art Creation. All classes will fall under community resilience and resistance. A full list of vendors and classes will be posted by end of Sept. If you would like to participate as a Vendor (It’s free to participate) or to teach a class, please fill out THIS FORM.

Event Details:

  • There will be a Mutual Aid Table where neighbors can bring items they don’t use anymore and dig through to see if there are items you can’t live without. it is a Free table, you do not have to bring something to take something.

  • We will be building a Free Little Pantry in the garden to ensure there is always food available when folks need it. We encourage you to bring a canned food item with you to help get this project fully started!

  • We will have an Art Shed with multiple activities along with art installations.

  • Curious about how to build a pollinator/insect palace? We will be creating one to keep at the garden!

  • Afternoon classes will be compromised of three focuses: 1. Art projects. 2. Knowledge building around land care, and 3. Skill building including seed saving, self defense, medical first aid and more.

We are amazed at the work that has been happening at the new garden. Our agreement with Hennepin County was to get raised beds and a shed built before end of year. The weather held out for a long time, but of course as soon as the temps dipped a coup

We put the garden to bed last week. The skies were bright, the north wind cooler. We emptied the beds and blanketed them with hay. We cut out junk trees and removed rotting wood. And though we worked, we sat around the fire enjoying homemade chili
